Local artist Erik Ruin has curated an evening of music and moving image from made by three ensembles of various sizes from Georgia and Philadelphia:

Erik Ruin’s Ominous Cloud Ensemble is an ever-evolving, collectively-improvising large ensemble for projections and music, led by visual artist Erik Ruin, lauded by the New York Times for his “spell-binding cut-paper animations.” Erik manipulates intricate paper-cuts and painted films on overhead projectors to create abstract landscapes and fragmentary scenes that are nonetheless charged with meaning, merging with music that ranges from dark atmospherics to ecstatic peaks of dissonance. Members of the ensemble include a rotating cast of Philly’s finest musicians- for this performance they are Tara Middleton (Sun Ra Arkestra) on vocals/violin, Myles Donovan (Disemballerina) on viola/harp, Dan Blacksberg (Deveykus) on trombone, Jesse Sparhawk (On the Water) on harp and pedal steel, composer Quinn Collins on bass, Julius Masri (Mephisto Halabi) on electronics, and Scott Verrastro (Kohoutek) on percussion. Electric Nature are a psych improv group from Athens, GA that delves equally into psychedelic noise, blissful ambient, free rock abandon, harsh drones, modular synthesis, fiery free jazz, processed acoustic meandering, cosmic industrial, etc. You can hear more on Electric Nature’s Bandcamp page.

Philadelphia-based sound and visual artist Lauren Pakradooni has made hypnotic music with cassette loops and voice for over a decade, using the monikers Pak and Tether since 2006. Song forms and soundscapes are composed through the layering of handmade/recorded cassette tape loops and various electronics. Hear more from Lauren on Bandcamp.

Doors open at 7:30pm. Performances will start shortly thereafter.
