Join us for an evening of immersive and improvised collaborations featuring local and touring musicians.
Seven Count is the collaboration of drummer Jake Nussbaum (The Early), trumpeter Angus McCullough and windstringer Adam Tinkle. Their collective began in 2016 through improvised acoustic music, and has since grown to include electronic instruments, gallery installations, publications, pirate radio stations, and sonic tea ceremonies. They are currently on tour out of Philadelphia and Troy, NY behind their latest album, Rags and Sparkle.Hear more of their music on Bandcamp.
Jesse Kudler is a musician, composer, performer, and sound artist who plays and works with guitar, electronics, pipe organ, recordings, synthesizers, radios, tapes, movement, and text. His work is based in listening, improvisation, and collaboration (with people, devices, sites, and spaces) to explore ambiguous affects, perception, time, authorship, intention, agency, and modes and practices of listening. Always the strangest member of the various groups in which he performs, Kyle Press has one foot in funk and psych bands, one foot in free jazz/improvised music and another more recent foot in his abstract electronic music. His new solo tape on No Rent Records is chock full of the unbridled weirdness that he usually uses more sparingly in his more conventional band projects, like wrong-note saxophone solos, super loud throat singing when you least expect it, electronic squeals and guttural noises.
Doors to the show open at 7:30, with music starting around 8:00. Come early to see Landscapes on the Edge of Abstraction, an art show of oil paintings and encaustics currently on display in Studio 34’s hallway gallery.
