Studio 34 is psyched to inaugurate a new Sunday Music Series with this program put together by longtime friend Dan Blacksberg. Six musicians will perform in three ensembles: one solo, one duo, and one trio.

sinonó is a brief submergence, a string of choices, a container for the communion of rigor and failure. This NY-based trio, featuring Isabel Crespo Pardo (voice), Lester St. Louis (cello), and Henry Fraser (bass), performs graphic scores and poem/songs composed by Crespo. sinonó will tour the Northeast in March 2023 in anticipation of their debut album.

Sonali Singh is a bassoonist and aspiring music therapist based in Philadelphia. Presently in school for their Masters in Music Therapy at Temple University, Sonali has previously studied Bassoon performance at the Peabody Institute and at Washington Adventist University. They are afraid of birds. Dueting with Singh is Aaron Pond, a hornist, vocalist, and synthesist proudly mining the vein of internationalist chamber music. He’s self-taught in tuvan throat singing, counter-tenor, and other extended techniques. Aaron is presently an Artist in Residence at Mascher Space Cooperative and a writer for the Broad Street Review.

Appearing everywhere from West Philly basements to Carnegie Hall, trombonist, composer, and educator Dan Blacksberg connects people, sounds, and cultures in respectful and vitalizing ways. Acknowledged as the foremost practitioner of klezmer trombone and a respected voice in jazz & experimental music, Dan creates music inside and outside known genres, from danceable klezmer melodies on Radiant Others, to genre-busting projects like his Hasidic doom metal band Deveykus. He has performed and recorded with artists such as klezmer masters Elaine Hoffman Watts and Adrienne Cooper, and experimentalists like Anthony Braxton and extreme doom metal band The Body. He also makes the Radiant Others Klezmer Podcast.

Our café for this event is curated by Frankie Makes & Bakes. Doors open at 8:00pm, music starts at 8:30pm. Advance tickets here or by donation at the door.
