Working 60 hour weeks and sleeping with too many people to have alone time, in 2008, shay(den) stumbled into a yoga class looking for that elusive self-care people talk about. What he found instead found was access to a body he never knew he had, ways to quiet his brain, and space to face unspoken fears. Changed by the practice, that year he completed a 15-hour StreetYoga trauma informed yoga training and began incorporating breathing and meditation techniques into his youth work. In 2012 he completed a 200-hour teacher training with Beyond Asana and began co-teaching Queer and Trans Yoga, in 2013 he completed Yin training, and in 2015 he completed Reiki training. shay(den) is committed to both social & healing justice and brings these to commitments to his teaching and his practice. Off the mat shay spends time facilitating, volunteering for the Board of the Mariposa co-op, playing in skirts, eating treats, and cycling.
