What is Pilates?

Pilates is a series of movements designed to strengthen your core muscles, improve flexibility, and enhance the mind-body connection. Practicing Pilates requires you to shift your attention inward and deepen your breath, which helps promote relaxation.

Your core muscles provide support and stability to your spine and pelvis. Strengthening your core can help with back pain and improve your posture. A strong core helps with balance and can improve athletic performance by promoting more efficient functional movement.

Julia Naftulin believes that Pilates is for everyone. Her practice is about much more than looking good – it’s about feeling strong and healthy.

Julia came to Pilates as a dancer looking for a way to manage her own chronic back pain. As a result, Julia’s perspective on Pilates focuses on the rehabilitative elements of Pilates, while also giving her students a great workout.

Julia has been teaching Pilates since 2003. She earned a Masters Degree in Movement Therapy from Drexel University in 2007. She’s taught at Studio 34 since the studio’s first days, and has loved watching Studio 34 evolve into what it is today.

Julia’s group classes, which emphasize flexibility, core-strengthening, and mind-body connection will use the mat and small equipment. Private sessions, which are tailored to individual needs and goals, will include specialized equipment such as the Wunda Chair, Reformer, and Cadillac.
