In Ayurveda, supporting digestion is a beautiful way to experience better overall health. Food is the most basic form of nourishment. Stress, overwhelm, and environmental toxins impair digestive activity and shut down the rest or digest response. We can have difficulty taking in nourishment or digesting food. When the digestive system is impaired, we may experience bloating, indigestion, IBS, acid reflux, migraines, menstrual difficulties, multiple food sensitivities, or disordered eating. Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology has a beautiful understanding that nourishment offers the juice or essence for life, the “rasa.” It plays many roles like building the protective layer of fats and proteins around the nerve cells in our nervous system which is essential for brain health and function.
